Happy Wedding Wednesday! Today we thought we would share with you some of our favorite ideas for a travel themed wedding (or birthday party, or anniversary, or bon voyage...). It's truly one of our favorite themes for a wedding, because it lets you get super personal and creative.
Starting out with the Save the Date: Now this could be anything from a printed map like so, to a postcard, to a "passport" to travel if you are having a destination event. Pick something that really reflects your story and lets your guests in on why your event will be travel themed (maybe you met on study abroad, maybe he proposed in Prague, maybe you've been living on separate coasts, etc).
And of course your invitations should echo the same theme. Maybe even providing guests with a little booklet about your travels or a DVD or wedding website of photos of the two of you on your journeys.
Having guests sign post cards from either the destination of your wedding, or cards you have collected throughout your travels is a great alternative to a guest book. Have them stuff them inside a suitcase or a mailbox. Displaying other items like a globe, photos of your travels, or things you have collected on your trip will give guests a further glimpse into your personalities.
Maps of your wedding location, especially beautiful hand drawn maps, are a fun keepsake of your wedding day. Map drink/cupcake flags are an easy DIY project that will make for some more fun decor, as would this hand lettered vintage globe!
Some more creative additions are these cufflinks (maybe of where you got engaged and where your wedding is? Both of your hometowns? Your honeymoon destination?) as a great groom's gift and pretty pastel map luggage tag escort cards give guests a favor and a way to find their seat all in one! Easy enough to make yourself, this great driftwood sign points to places special in your life, as near or far as they may be.
Finally, the food! Let the food reflect your love of travel as much as the decor. Maybe Mexico was where you are headed for your honeymoon? Tiny tacos paired with mini margaritas are adorable and absolultely delicious! Is England on your list? Little pints of beer paired with mini beef wellington are sure to please the eye and the taste buds. Also, these adorable spaghetti and meatball hors d'oeurves are festive and fun and pay homage to your adventures in Italy. Be creative!
We hope you enjoyed these ideas for a travel themed wedding. What is your "dream" destination for your wedding?
