New Year’s Eve nuptials are celebrated with fireworks in the heart of Boston Common and a countdown to midnight.
The significance of the day and the New Year’s Eve date, Juliette and Noah felt compelled to a certain level of formality. Keeping it playful while setting the tone of the event the invitations read “black tie optional, dancing shoes required.” The bridal party certainly held up their end of the bargain as each member strutted into the ballroom at The Ritz-Carlton, Boston Common wearing Nike sneakers. Being mindful that many of their guests traveled from afar, Juliette and Noah placed small alarm clocks on each table which were set to go off at midnight in the countries and states represented at the wedding. The soft color palette of grays and pinks were illuminated with votive and pillar candles throughout the ballroom. “The Ritz-Carlton, Boston Common and Winston Flowers were absolutely phenomenal on the decor front — on all fronts actually, but certainly the decor front. We loved the idea of a candle-lit ceremony and reception, primarily for the warmth and sense of intimacy that candles create,” said Juliette.

Name: Chapel Grille
Location: Cranston, Rhode Island
Tell us a little bit about the history of the restaurant and wedding venue: The chapel–now the Chapel Grille–is part of American history. Sitting among the grounds of the former training school for boys, the property dates back to 1638 when it was deeded to the Westcott Family from Roger Williams and later sold to the state of Rhode Island in 1869. (If you visit the Cathedral Bar, you will see portraits of Priscilla and Stuckely Westcott III and, yes, they are looking at you!) Carpionato Group has since purchased the property and transformed it into an unparalleled lifestyle center. The chapel was built in 1891 to administer the necessary spiritual and physical healing needed by the wayward youth. Originally designed by the Rhode Island based architectural firm of Stone, Carpenter and Wilson, it is one of the more handsome buildings on the property. With the direction and oversight of The Cranston Historic District Commission and The Rhode Island Historic Preservation & Heritage Commission, Carpionato Group has preserved as much of the historic buildings as possible. The end result has created a breathtaking venue at every turn from the inside out.
About the venue: Chapel Grille is an easy-to-find oasis of culinary excellence, conveniently located off the major highways and offering complimentary valet parking. It’s interior is expansive, welcoming and comfortable. We specialize in boutique weddings of 100 or less. The Wine Salon is Chapel Grille’s largest Private Dining Room and can accommodate up to 100 guests. With access to a Private Garden Terrace, sunlight floods in through the bank of arched-top French doors. The private garden terrace is a great outdoor space for cocktails and hors d’oeuvres prior to dinner, bistro lights and panoramic views, which offer an enchanting ambiance. This beautifully appointed space is handicap accessible and comes ready with Wi-Fi access, (2) 60” Plasma Televisions, and an iPod docking station. Chapel Grille can further accommodate your event with a dance floor, custom color linens, and white leather lounge furniture.
What is your busy season? September through December and May through June tend to be our busiest months.
What sort of events is it available for? Chapel Grille offers four different rooms for private events and each space provides a backdrop like no other. In addition to boutique weddings, we specialize in bridal and baby showers, rehearsal dinners, social celebrations and corporate events. We offer menus customizable to suit your budget including plated dinner and lunch menus, buffets and cocktail reception options.
Is there a favorite event that you’ve hosted there? A surprise wedding! All of the guests thought they were coming to an anniversary celebration for the couple. At the entrance of the room they had a camera and a sign saying “surprise we are getting married” and a camera that captured everyone’s reaction. The room was also beautifully decorated with candlelight. The bride had brought in over 150 votive candles to illuminate the room.
What makes it stand out as a venue? The ambiance of the restaurant is enchanting and magical. Pair that with the incredible food and service and Chapel Grille makes a great destination for weddings and events. Our manicured grounds offer a beautiful backdrop for photographs. Our pricing is very reasonable and we are always open to customizing menus to fit a client’s budget.
Do you have any recommendations or advice for brides considering this as a venue? Chapel Grille is a one-of-kind venue. If you are looking to host an event that guests will be talking about for years to come, look no further.
What is the business motto that the Chapel Grille functions under? Chapel Grille strives to offer our guests an ambiance and atmosphere that’s second to none, inspire the spirits of our guests through confident and educated service and provide well-crafted cuisine while respecting and nurturing our world. It’s the namesake of the property!

Name: Newport Vineyards
Location: Middletown, RI
What’s the history behind Newport Vineyards? There is so much history! It dates back to 1917, when the great-grandfather of our owners (John and Paul Nunes) purchased the land that is Nunes Farm and is now protected farmland housing 30 acres of our nearly 60 acres of vineyards. Newport Vineyards was incorporated in 1995 by John and Paul Nunes, on the heels of part of the original vineyard, which was planted by retired Navy Captain Richard Alexander. Now in its 20th anniversary year, the Nunes brothers have completed a two-year multi-million dollar renovation and expansion elevating Newport Vineyards to a true food, beverage and events destination in Newport County.
Can you give a few details about the new wedding space? Our new wedding venue, The Meadow Room (pictured above), is truly unique. Couples enjoy the beautiful backdrop of vines, coupled with a romantic refined rustic décor. The walls are adorned with reclaimed New England barn wood, paired with polished concrete floors, wood beams, barn wood doors, a glass door overhead that spills out onto a covered porch overlooking the vineyard. In addition, our winery’s bottling room and Tank Room can be seen by guests through a glass wall, so the winery is always incorporated into the aesthetic of the space.
What makes the vineyard a special place for couples to get married? We are fortunate enough to have the perfect marriage of a beautiful setting, along with easy access to downtown Newport, Providence, and Boston. We are also one of the few vineyards in the region that offer indoor venue facilities.
When’s the best time of the year to book the vineyard for a wedding? We have the ability to offer weddings year round. In fact, we have several winter weddings coming up this year—a snowy vineyard makes a beautiful backdrop! Certainly May – October is a perfect time of year to get married in the Newport County region. Specifically for a vineyard, it’s good to keep in mind the growing season. The vines will begin to bud in May, are full bloom mid-summer, and then our harvest season begins early October. The Meadow Room is perfect in the warmer seasons with the large glass overhead door open, creating a beautiful indoor/outdoor flow. However, it’s so cozy with its reclaimed barn wood walls in the off-season.
How many wedding receptions has the new space already accommodated? This is the first year in our new space, as the Meadow Room opened in early June this year. We began opening it up for booking last October, and have 10 weddings booked this year. For 2016, we already have over 20 weddings booked. While we do expect this to grow, we look to book only one wedding per day.
