Seaside Splendor

Always in awe with the landscape of the seaside, Karen Taddei of Lilacs chose a color palette of white, grey, soft blue, and subtle hints of blush. A low farm table was anchored at sea level by an antique lobster net on the shore of Wequassett Resort. Abalone shells in silvery grey and pink opalescent tones, vintage zinc flower pots with a dark patina, and white pillar candles surrounded an industrial iron chain. Antique curiosities like binoculars, a compass, and mother of pearl opera glasses were added to the table for an unexpected twist. Air plants that mimicked the color of the sea and a handful of white peonies softened the hard design elements and brought romance to the table. Vintage oyster dishes and etched crystal glasses were juxtaposed with a modern iridescent place setting from Be Our Guest. A rustic cart from an old thread factory in Cape Cod served as the dessert station. Artisan Bake Shop created an indulgent spread mirroring the textures and soft metallics of the seashore. A towering cake was brushed with gold and silver tones and surrounded by petite sweets in antique boxes. Other antique elements like a weathered porthole cover, driftwood, and weathered lines completed the design. A little ways down the shore, a fabric structure sheltered a lounge complete with wicker furniture, plush with pillows and fur throws, and a driftwood cocktail table designed by Ryan Designs. Suspended above, a lustrous shell chandelier cast a warm glow on a coral filled urn and air plants adding warmth to the seaside lounge.

New England fare mixed with antique treasures from their ancestors create the perfect vintage nautical décor

The Exchange Conference Center in Boston was a seamless choice of venue for the bride. “The ECC is right on the water providing the perfect backdrop for a nautical theme and the building is vintage as it used to be the old fish auction site for the city,” she explained. The bride is a chef with sushi as a specialty so it was fate! It was important to the couple that everyone had a stellar food experience. Guests feasted on New England style tapas along with many passed hors d’oeuvres. At the end of the night comfort food was served in the form of corndogs, grilled cheese batons, and whoopee pies. Her grandmother’s jewelry, some nautical pieces from her great uncle who was a navy officer, and a 1940’s cake topper from her grandparents wedding were just a few of the mementos adding to the vintage décor. Guests went home with lobster cookie cutters and a belly full of delicious food!

Linden Place Mansion – Venue Spotlight

A mansion like no other, Linden Place has a breathtaking interior that can be transformed into anything you dreamed of for your big day. We interviewed Special Events Services Coordinator, Susan Battle to discover more about this beautifully unique property.

1. What is the history of Linden Place?

Linden Place Mansion, located in the center of historic Bristol, Rhode Island, was built in 1810 by the seafaring General George DeWolf and remained within the same family for seven generations before becoming a historical house museum.

Built in the Robert Adam inspired Federal style, popular in the early decades of our new American nation, Linden Place magnificently reflected the prosperity of the DeWolf merchant princes and the exquisite Adamesque Federal taste inspired by the architecture of ancient Greece and Rome. Guests see one of the best examples of Federal architecture in New England, from the magnificent Palladian windows to the fluted Corinthian columns, which gracefully flank the front entrance to the mansion. Also of architectural significance are the later added Gothic conservatory and four-story spiral staircase.

2. Do you offer in-house catering and/or event planning services?

Linden Place has a full catering kitchen, complete with refrigeration, ovens, ranges and a sizeable work space for caterers. While Linden Place does not have an in-house caterer, we do have a list of required caterers who are very experienced in working at our historic site.  These full-service caterers allow our clients to design and customize every part of their event, from menus and bar packages to décor, all within a desired price range.  These caterers also provide superb coordination services and work closely with Linden Place staff to oversee every little detail and timing of an event. Those who reserve Linden Place for their event work directly with myself.  I coordinate all vendors to ensure a smooth-running and hassle-free event for all.

3. Do you have a preferred or required vendor list that you provide to clients?

We provide all of our clients with an extensive preferred vendor list, from florists to photographers to Bands and DJ’s to a list of local lodgings. However, our clients are welcome to choose vendors who are not on our list.  It is only with catering do we require that clients choose from our broad list.

4. Is the mansion available to rent year-round?

Yes, Linden Place hosts weddings and events throughout the year! While warm weather events enjoy the setting of our sculpture and rose gardens, winter weddings are treated to an intimate, elegant indoor setting including the ballroom’s large working fireplace. Additionally, the mansion is gorgeously and tastefully decorated for the holiday season making Linden Place the ideal setting for a holiday event or a New Year’s Eve celebration!

5. Which areas are available to rent?

Rental of Linden Place includes the use of four areas: the historic 1810 mansion, carriage house ballroom, adjacent tented courtyard and east rose garden for your ceremony & reception. In the event of rain, our ballroom can be converted to a lovely chapel with ceremony in front of our beautiful fireplace. The ballroom is heated and air-conditioned, making it an ideal venue for any season!

Masculine Sophistication

Glen Manor with its ornate architectural details served as the perfect backdrop for this wedding that can be best described as masculine sophistication.

With two grooms, it can be a challenge to balance the decor while still making it feel like a special occasion. Candice Coppola of Jubilee Events conquered this, making every detail stand out. “We started with chinoiserie pattern, which reminds me so much of New England, and paired it with fun textures like boxwood leather and Lucite,” Candice described. “Those additional textures gave the photo shoot a masculine edge.” The theme was tied into every detail from the expertly stocked mahogany bar cart from Be Our Guest, to the chinouserie chandelier over the outdoor bar designed by Ryan Designs. A beautiful bed of boxwood showcased the guest escort cards designed by Coral Pheasant Stationery + Design, complementing the invitation suite perfectly. White ceramic vessels topped with topiaries and creamy white floral arrangements designed by Just For You Floral Design Studio created an intimate vibe for the dinner table. Small succulents in copper vessels at each place setting added to the overall tablescape while providing the guests with a keepsake.

Stay tuned for Wednesday’s installment featuring the culinary creations from this beautiful photo shoot!
