UNIQUE Weddings by Alexis – Vendor Spotlight

Alexis Eliopoulos-O’Mara, Master Bridal Consultant and owner of UNIQUE Weddings by Alexis is one of only 90 people in the world to carry this title through the Associations of Bridal Consultants. Alexis has an impressive 18 years in the event planning industry and specializes in destination weddings and working with couples that are out of the area that have chosen New England as their destination.

How did UNIQUE Weddings by Alexis come to be?

I started out in marketing and graphic design and then got into corporate event planning. After years of planning large scale destination annual corporate events, I longed for more creativity and longer term planning. That is when I started pursuing weddings. I fell in love with weddings at once and have been working on weddings alone ever since!

What are the services you offer?

I customize every package for each couple I work with. I will assist with as little as month of management or start to finish planning and design — and then of course anything in between! Some examples of services include full service management, wedding day coordination, guidance on etiquette, venue recommendations, wedding design, vendor referrals and much more.

How far you willing to travel to provide decor and services?

Absolutely anywhere! We travel throughout New England on a regular basis, but we have worked on wedding and events throughout the States and on several tropical islands.

What is trending so for in 2018 for event decor?

Back bars with candles, family photographs, and bud vases are great accents to the cocktail hour or reception decor and desired by many couples.

Signage is hugely popular! Custom-designed paper materials for weddings has become much more frequent.

Mini ceremonial cakes instead of large traditional wedding cakes to direct the focus more on dessert stations, passed desserts, and late night snacks is also trending.

Couples are hosting large rehearsal dinners or welcome parties for many (or all) guests the night before the wedding.

Lounge furniture, signature drinks, natural wood guest tables and mixed table shapes are all still very much desired.

What is one piece of advice you can give to brides?

Enjoy your engagement and do not worry about the details on your wedding day! If you are having fun at your wedding, your guests will take your lead and have a wonderful time as well!! Couples are often so busy between planning their wedding, working, and other personal changes, they forget that being engaged should be a fun time in their lives. Have a great time planning your wedding and dancing the night away in celebration when the day finally comes!

Industrial Glam – A Styled Shoot

The raw elements of the Waterfire Arts Center juxtaposed with fresh green foliage & modern décor created an ethereal vibe for this industrial glam styled shoot.

Bright natural light flooded the preserved industrial framework of the former rubber manufacturing facility, bouncing off the exposed steel beams and weathered bricks. The raw authenticity and muted colors of the space inspired Karen Taddei of Lilacs to choose her signature green and white floral palette with pops of burgundy and silver accents. “This was a natural palette not to compete with, but respect. The simplicity of the green pear branches turning burgundy with the season combined with the acid green viburnum and hanging amaranthus infused the industrial space with fresh beauty,” Karen described. An airy canopy of chiffon draping and three beaded chandeliers designed by floated above the zinc-top table, softening the space with warmth and romance.

“The draping installation combined with the beaded chandeliers over the tables added a dreamy, airy quality that was illuminated by the gorgeous light that streamed through the large windows. We kept the look flowing and romantic with a touch of drama to soften the space,” Christen of Ryan Designs described.

Soaring arrangements of earthy, autumn-kissed branches and hanging flora in silver fluted vases added a touch of drama while the clean lines of the transparent ghost chairs completed the modern look. The bouquets and headpieces were designed with lush peonies, ranunculus, and sweet pea to reflect the romanticism of the Midsummer’s Night inspired fashions from Modern Trousseau.

Raw-edged paper painted with icy blue watercolor by The Paper Perfectionist embodied the industrial glam vision flawlessly.

Mouth-watering tempura lobster & duck confit nuggets drizzled in blueberry bbq sauce crafted by Russell Morin Catering & Events.

Lemon lilac petit four topped with a mini macaron crafted by Emily Bridges, Pastry Chef at Russell Morin Catering & Events made the perfect bite-sized treat.

Shoreline Serenity – A Styled Shoot

A styled shoot set amidst the driftwood covered shoreline of Lake Champlain in Chittenden County Vermont.

While most Vermont weddings feature the famed mountainous backdrops, lush with the greens of summer or warm with the golden hues of autumn, there is also great beauty to be found in the often forgotten lake region of Chittenden County Vermont. With that in mind, Gabe Aceves of Gabe Aceves Photography and Lindsey Leichthammer of Farmhouse Group Events were inspired to create a styled shoot highlighting the coastal charm of Lake Champlain. “After meeting with Gabe to review his mood board that was filled with airy blue and pink ombré fabrics and seaside elements like water and oyster shells, I knew the lake would help to pull in the Piscean elements he had envisioned for this shoot,” Lindsey recalled. The wooden farm table was set amidst the driftwood covered shoreline and draped with a watery blue, linen runner that flowed off the table, creating an ethereal setting. Jayson Munn of Jayson Munn Design incorporated a wildly lush arrangement filled with cascading greenery and pink blooms to add a little drama to the table. Watery gray marble place settings and cerulean geode serving platters completed the look.
