Bliss Celebrations Guide

Vendor Spotlight: Michael Marcoux Events

How did your business come to be?

Well, it’s a long, wonderful story – after over 20 successful years in the corporate sector, I transitioned into the career that I’ve always envisioned for myself. Family and friends encouraged and supported me, as they knew this is what I was meant to do. Coming from a corporate setting, I bring a unique blend of professional skills to the event planning industry, including strong organizational abilities and the capability to collaborate across cross-functional teams, meet tight deadlines, and build deep and trusted client and vendor relationships.

What services do you offer?

I offer a full range of services from planning, design, and coordination. One size doesn’t fit all, so it all starts with a conversation. My initial meeting (complimentary) takes us through a defined process designed to uncover a general vision for your wedding, and start to put a plan in place to make your dreams come true. Warning: we typically we share quite a few laughs while we get a lot accomplished. Hey, this is life’s fun stuff – let’s enjoy it!!! When you hire Michael Marcoux Events, you get Michael Marcoux. I am personally there from engagement to the brunch the morning after your wedding.

Let’s talk industry trends! What do you see being prominent this season?

A classic wedding will never go out of style. Weddings are one of the only events in a lifetime where it not only represents the couple, but also the newly combined family. The most successful weddings are those that keep a foot in the traditions of the past while showcasing the dreams of the future, a single thread from their grandparents, the parents, and of course, most importantly the couple.

Combining bold colors.

I am very excited to see a great infusion of color in wedding palettes. It used to be customary to pick a color or two to base your wedding decor and wardrobe around. Today, couples are pushing those limits with bold color schemes that are memorable and create greater interest and depth. Come on, go bold!

Statement wedding cakes.

After several years of wedding cakes being off trend, they are back, and bigger and bolder than ever. Think darker icing, elaborate details, and tall!

Powerful wedding dresses.

As the world is recognizing that women are the stronger sex (sorry to my fellow males, but the truth is the truth), designers are offering more powerful wedding dresses. Everything is coming down the runway – the classics, new shapes, materials, and unique silhouettes. Simple, elaborate, every shade of every color, pants, capes, long, short… you name it. Ladies half the fun is finding your dress – the other half is walking down the aisle and showing off your personal style.

Local and environmentally conscious.

There are now so many options for couples to showcase their support to be eco-friendly. From the stationery to the flowers, the menu to your wedding registry, it’s a statement couples want to make – and they are.

What is one piece of advice you always give to brides?

Enjoy yourself! The wedding will be over before you know it, and you don’t want to miss this once in a lifetime experience stressing over the details. Hire vendors that you truly connect with because at some point, you need to turn the reins over to them to bring your dream to life.

Moroccan Muse

The vibrancy of lush botanicals set the stage for this Moroccan-inspired styled shoot.

Nestled between Africa and Europe, Morocco is noted for their intricate architecture and incredible use of vibrant colors. “I really fell in love with the Botanical Gardens at Roger Williams Park because the greenery was a perfect fit for our Moroccan-style vision. The tropical plants captured the feel of Northern Africa and played perfectly into the décor,” Edna Dratch-Parker of EFD Creative described. Partnering with SYB Events and New Leaf Flores, they transformed the Botanical Gardens into a mecca of Moroccan style. Three seating areas were styled to highlight architectural and interior design aspects of the culture. Every immersive detail made you feel as though you were actually in Morocco. Oranate lanterns hung like chandeliers above the low head table, while the cocktail table was draped with linen in a mosaic tile print. New Leaf Flores sourced textural blooms in vibrant fuchsia, orange, and purple to enhance the tropical foliage in the garden. The explosion of color was balanced flawlessly by the surrounding botanicals and gilded décor.

Rainbows and Butterflies

Rainbow colors and whimsical design elements transformed a luxe tent into haven of pure joy.

At first glance it appears Lillian had an affinity for butterflies, but in reality, it was an artistic display of symbolism perfectly executed by Ryan Designs. Lillian and Matthew met in an airport. Thousands of butterflies were incorporated into the décor as a nod to flight, and the evolution of their romantic love story. A colorful canopy of ribbons and butterflies enticed guests to look up as they entered the sailcloth tent. “I just wanted people to walk into the tent and smile. I was thrilled with the way the tent looked and felt – just like joy to me!” Lillian described. The floral décor was inspired by Lillian’s love for English gardens. Vibrant blooms spilled out of white metal birdcages for an overgrown look, while other tables featured imaginative trees made of flowers and soaring branches. The floral arrangements, place-setting, and lighting complemented the vibrancy of the butterfly landscape, resulting in a flawlessly-cohesive design.

Lush Garden Vows

An intimate, private estate wedding overlooking the vast ocean in Jamestown, Rhode Island.

Kiana and Maeve were inspired by the lush look of an overgrown greenhouse. As environmentally-conscious individuals, they chose a florist that only used locally-sourced flowers as well as farm-to-table caterer Blackstone Caterers. “The decor was dictated by what was blooming/growing in Rhode Island in September and our vendors brought our overgrown greenhouse vision to life exceptionally,” raved Kiana.

A sweet embrace after their first look.

Mini jars of local honey served as an edible escort card and favor!

Wild greens and mixed lanterns dangled from a wooden trellis, emulating the overgrown greenhouse vibe flawlessly.

Buttery-blooms added dimension to their bouquet.

Fresh blackberries and lemons lined each layer of the delicious buttercream cake.

Chiffon draping by Exquisite Events made a grand entrance into the tent.

“We’ve had countless memories as a couple here felt that getting married at home, on the water, surrounded by family, friends, and our dogs was ideal,” Kiana & Maeve reminisced.
