Apotheca Flowers – Vendor Spotlight

Tucked away in quaint Goffstown, New Hampshire you’ll find Apotheca Flowers; a floral studio/cafe hybrid where a team of talented souls create floral works of art and a cup of Joe that’ll tantalize your taste buds…

1. How did Apotheca Flowers come to be?

Apotheca Flowers was born of necessity and a desire to create a space that was uplifting and inspiring for people. I opened during a time in my life when I found myself at a crossroads with two young children and jumping in head first was my only option. Life is short, and it’s so important to quest for Eden while we are here. Beauty matters and an inspired object can bring so much joy into a space- and flowers are certainly one of life’s most powerful objects of beauty. They communicate beyond words and impact the human spirit in unparalleled ways.

2. Do you offer services beyond floral design?

We offer plant installations, creative workshops, and a gorgeous gift gallery, as well as a rotating art gallery.  Our space is also home to a café.  Community involvement is a hugely important to us, and nothing nurtures community like an offering of fellowship over poured cups and filled plates.

3. What is currently trending in floral design?

Movement!! We can’t get enough of rambling imperfection and finding design balance in unexpected ways. Also, large installations and color juxtaposed with tones that ooze historical elegance.

4. What flowers are in season right now?

We buy locally as much as possible in late summer and early to mid-autumn….mixing local blooms with flowers from all over the world creates such rich, dynamic colors and textures to work with. Currently we are playing with dahlias, zinnias, grasses and all sorts of seed pods like scabiosa and milkweed and, of course, garden roses. New Zealand peonies are arriving now and in a few weeks Chilean, which we are so excited about!

5. How far are you willing to travel to provide your services?

We travel anywhere!  This year found us in Rhode Island, Maine, Connecticut, Nantucket, Boston, New York, Vermont, and our own beloved New Hampshire.  We are always up for adventure and unique story telling through color, texture, and design!

Jodi Raphael Events – Vendor Spotlight

For as long as she can remember, Jodi has loved to plan parties. She transformed that passion into a thriving career and business the Boston area has come to know as Jodi Raphael Events…

How did Jodi Raphael Events come to be?

My career started back at WCVB-Chanel 5 News as a television producer until I took some time off to start my family. With two children, I found myself planning celebration after celebration. I was able to follow that passion and broaden my experience working for two event companies.  But my clients needed more; they needed my one-on-one attention when planning their special events. After putting the word out and connecting with contacts and vendors in the Boston area, Jodi Raphael Events was born.

What services do you provide?

Jodi Raphael Events is a full service event planning company. We specialize in planning special occasions for social or corporate clients. With each client, we take great pride in having our arms around the entire event. One never knows what may happen while in the process of planning; our experienced and creative team is ready for anything.

What is currently trending in wedding design?

We are starting to see a shift from the rustic wedding look to more a more bohemian feel. Something a bit more nature-driven with a larger amount of greenery and a deeper color palate. Jewel tones can now be found in the décor as well as the florals, quite the opposite of the very recently popular white and clear.

How far are you willing to travel to provide your services?

For our clients, we are always open to the possibly of extensive travel!  Note: How about — Destination weddings are very popular and a lot of fun to plan. For our clients, we are always open to travel as far as they need us to go!

What do you think will be a big event design trend in 2019?

In 2019 we see a big opportunity to showcase a bride’s personal style through mix and match place settings. This can include a variety of chair options, changing up the chargers and even different glassware. The options are endless and it can really make an event on-trend and so unique.

Marigold, Fiery Orange & Graphite

Fiery autumn hues set the tone for Alex and Corey’s modern-meets-rustic wedding at a secluded farm in Maine.

“Corey and I wanted to bring a modern feel to the barn setting. It was fun finding each piece of the puzzle and seeing the theme develop as we moved through the design process with Jodi,” Alex reminisced. Jodi of Jodi Raphael Events harnessed all the talent that made their dream wedding a reality. Gray velvet upholstered chairs and a paisley-printed runner topped with buttery-yellow flora were juxtaposed with a whiskey-hued farm table where the bridal party sat. “Jim Carr at Be Our Guest was a magician with the rentals – always coming up with exactly what we needed!” Alex exclaimed. A long winding table amongst round tables covered in striped linens created dimension and added vibrancy to the cream tent with their vivid yellow and fiery orange autumn blooms scattered about.

Indigo, Gold & Cream – Color Theory

The regal elegance of the Glen Manor House inspired a dark and glamorous color palette exuding Gatsby Era allure.

Talia’s heart was always set on a dark, romantic wedding like that of a Gatsby party; filled with midnight blues and glittering gold accents. After meeting with Semia of Flowers by Semia her focus shifted a bit to incorporate more neutral hues like deep, earthy greens and warm whites. “Too much glitz could’ve come off tacky — my vendors did an amazing job at keeping everything balanced,” Talia recalled. Midnight navy linens were topped with tall gilded vases that were filled with creamy blooms on each round table. Under a canopy of twinkling lights a long navy table lush with a garland of greens created a magical outdoor dining experience for the bridal party. The cake, created by her dear mother Maureen of Something Different Cake Couture was like edible art; each layer a different texture and adorned with sugar anemones just like in Talia’s bouquet.
