Gourmet Galley – Vendor Spotlight

Located just over the Rhode Island border in North Stonington, CT, Gourmet Galley is a certified green caterer specializing in weddings, corporate events, and non-profits. They have over 20 years in the business and have just recently become the Caterer of Choice for the Newport Preservation Society!

1. How did Gourmet Galley come to be? 

I got married in 1996 and hired Gourmet Galley to cater my wedding!  2 years later, the owner was catering my friends wedding that I was attending and approached me and asked if I wanted to buy her business!  She said to me, “I remember you as a bride, you were very into the food and the planning etc. and I’ve heard through the grape vine you are starting to cater on your own a bit…” True story.  That’s exactly how it happened.  As they say, the rest is history.

2. Are there any other services you provide besides catering?

We run a seasonal lunch cafe at the Florence Griswold Museum, called Cafe Flo.  It’s a full service, outdoor cafe with 40 seats.

3. Are you the exclusive caterer for any venues?

We are the exclusive caterer at: The Guilford Yacht Club, Guilford, The Meadows, Stonington, Priam Vineyards, Colchester.

4. What wedding food trends have you seen most in weddings this year?

Everyone is asking for locally sourced, sustainable menu items as well as vegan dishes.  We’ve had a lot of fun creating tasty vegan dishes for our clients. Brown liquor drinks featured at the bar are huge this year too.

5. Do you have any signature dishes or does the menu change seasonally? 

Our menus definitely change seasonally, but we really like to create dishes for our clients based on their likes too.  We have one station that we have fun with called a Star Bar.  Star Bars feature one ingredient in 5-6 different dishes.  So, corn for instance.  The station might have: crispy corn cakes with avocado salsa, creamy corn and poblano soup sippers, bacon and maple popcorn, corn muffins with smoke pork shoulder. etc. We’ve done them with tomatoes, avocados, and clams!  Its fun and the guests love it.
