Capers Catering believes in a farm-to-fork philosophy. They partner with local farmers and artisans to source the freshest ingredients for their seasonal menus. Dedicated to reducing their carbon footprint, Capers Catering composts all food so nothing goes to waste. Read on to learn a little more about this amazing catering company!

1. How did Caper’s Catering come to be?

I started Capers Catering 26 years ago.  I have always loved to entertain and create happy memories – catering was the perfect field.  We are incredibly lucky to meet wonderful clients and create many gorgeous weddings each year.

2. Do your menu offerings change seasonally?

Our menus do change with the seasons.  We specialized in hand-crafted menus, with locally source ingredients.

3. Do you have signature dishes? If so, what are some?

Some menus items do tend to stay on the menu if they become very popular.  Our miniature New England lobster rolls are one such item.

4. What is currently trending in wedding catering?

This year we are seeing several trends which include more vegetarian & vegan weddings, Korean barbecue stations, intricate dessert buffets that may or may not include wedding cakes, and personally customized menus.  We are continuing to see an interest in organic farm-to-table menus, everything miniaturized, and innovative flavors.

Bridal Fashion Week April 2018

Bridal Fashion Week just wrapped up in New York City earlier this week where the Spring 2019 designer collections were unveiled. Beth Chapman, stylist , author, and owner of The White Dress by the Shore has shared some of her favorite trends to grace the runway this season!

“A bride’s wedding gown should not only be a reflection her wedding aesthetic, but it should reflect her personal style and who she is.  With the current trends in bridal, there TRULY is a gown for every bride. The silhouettes, fabrications and necklines shown during Spring 2019 New York Bridal Fashion Week were diverse” — Beth Chapman

Sheer Cover-Ups

Many designers showed coverage options on their runways.  This spanned from sheer capes, to capelets and boleros.  They were represented on both classic silhouettes as well as more avant garde options, like jumpsuits and shorts!

Clean and Classic

Many designers showed completely clean wedding gowns last season.  The difference this season was that many of them had sleeves. My favorite was the long sleeved version. To me, this is the perfect gown for a classic Fall or Winter wedding!

Textural Laces

The other extreme shown on the runway was gowns with unique, textural laces.

Colorful Embroidery

This daring new trend emerged this season.  Several designers took the embroidery trend one step further by introducing staturated color in ethnic inspired floral patterns.

Satin

Satin is a traditional fabric that we have not seen in some time.  Being that matte crepes have been popular for several seasons, designers are swinging the pendulum and bringing back the sheen with luxurious satin fabrics.

V-Necks

V-necks continue to be the hot neckline of the season.  This neckline was represented in various depths from demure to plunging.

Dusty Rose & Powder Blue

A breathtaking combination of dusty pastel hues and enchanting lighting transforms a clear tent into dreamy oasis.

Having been in the wedding industry for years, Kelly Fallon of Ormonde Productions had a clear vision of what she wanted her own wedding to be like. A clear tent from Chase Canopy sat upon the lush, tree –line field of her parent’s property setting the tone for the outside soiree. Soft pastel pink and blue linens complemented the airy gray chiffon draping that was intertwined with sparkling chandeliers creating a whimsical vibe. Textural blooms in muted tones with pops of lavender in high and low crystal vases added dimension and elegance to the vibe. “The white dance floor and the lighting played a huge role in transitioning the tent from day to night. When the sun went down the entire vibe went from airy and whimsical to bold and dramatic. It was magical,” Kelly reminisced.

Ormonde Productions — Vendor Spotlight

Specializing in lighting and beyond Ormonde Productions has raised the bar on event design. Learn more about this amazing company below!

1. How did Ormonde Productions come to be?

Ormonde Productions has been around since the mid 1980s. What started off as a
DJ/entertainment company and slowly morphed itself into what we are today mostly in part
due to the demand for more. As the wedding industry grew, so did the expectations of
our clients. They weren’t just looking for a fun party with good music, food, and flowers,
they wanted to create a gorgeous environment and for the past 20 or so years that’s
what we’ve done!

2. Do you offer services beyond lighting?

While lighting is our specialty we try to position ourselves as a full service, lighting,
design, and production company. Much more goes into an event aside from lighting,
however without great lighting, all of the other design elements can get lost. The
majority of the additional services we provide allow us to fully transform the spaces
we’re working in to fit our client’s vision. Draping, dance floors, stages, furniture, bars, video, and a huge variety of different hanging décor and design elements. We also
provide a lot of behind the scenes services necessary for the success of an event
such as sound, generators, and power distribution.

3. What is trending in lighting for weddings and events?

Right now as a whole with weddings and events we’re seeing more and more of our
clients choosing unique, nontraditional venues. Industrial spaces, museums, libraries,
and art galleries. With that, we’re seeing a huge increase in clients coming to us looking to enhance and bring out the uniqueness of these spaces.

4. What is one piece of advice you give to brides?

Wedding planning can be stressful and overwhelming. Hire the right people and be
upfront with them when it comes to your vision and budget. Assembling a
strong, experienced team of vendors will make the whole process so much more
seamless, especially if they have experience working together.

Also, when it comes to your vendors take the time to setup a consultation with them.
We are always encouraging our clients to come into our showroom to meet with
us in person. It is the best way for us to get to know our clients and for our clients to
develop a better sense of who we are, what we can do, and what can be done within
their environment.

5. How far are you willing to travel to provide your services?

The majority of our events are in the Rhode Island, Massachusetts area but we love to
travel and usually do so a handful of times each year. We’ve formed relationships with
planners outside of our local network that over the years have brought us on to events
up and down the east coast.
