Vendor Spotlight On: Blackstone Caterers

Vendor Spotlight is on Blackstone Caterers; known for their delicious farm-to-table cuisine and impeccable service, Blackstone Caterers never disappoints.

1. How did your business come to be?

Blackstone Caterers originated in the Blackstone Valley area in 1945. It was then we got our start catering at bereavements and local factories. Blackstone was known for our sandwiches, salads and traditional luncheon items (people still tell us stories of when they experienced Blackstone over 50 years ago!) but were ready to take our business to the next level. In the 80’s Blackstone migrated down to Newport to cater the lavish mansions parties and galas that were quickly becoming popular in this sought-after locale, and opened up The Market on the Boulevard (later known as The Market – Newport Gourmet).  The catering operated out of the back until the store came to a close in early 2000’s.  Blackstone made its final move to Aquidneck Park where we reside today!

2. What are the services you offer?

We are proud to be a full service caterer.  We design menus, have a full liquor license and manage all of our own staff.  Our clients work with our experienced Sales Team to create the style and design of their events through their menu, linens, china, glassware, signature cocktails, floor plans, and so on. Our completely customized approach allows us to foster lasting relationships with those we work with.

 3. Where are you located and how far will you travel to provide your service?

We are located in Aquidneck Park in Middletown, Rhode Island.  In season we will travel within about an hour or so from our commissary and further in the off season.  We typically say that we caterer all over Rhode Island, Southern Massachusetts and Eastern Connecticut as well as parts of the Cape.

4. How far in advance do you recommend clients to book?

We typically book a year out, but we see many clients booking even further to ensure they secure their preferred date.  We encourage those who are planning weddings to book as early as possible so they can experience the full range of venues and planning options available for their big day and not be limited by those that have already sold out. Our corporate business is a little closer to the date, but can sometimes range from a month or two to about a year out for larger galas.  We pride ourselves on never overextending or overselling—each of our clients are important to us and we promise to give them the level of service they expect and deserve, no matter the occasion.

 5. What is one piece of advice you always give to brides?

Hire vendors that understand your vision and that have experience.  You need to trust your vendors to take care of you.  Additionally, don’t shop by standard of price alone.  Make sure you know you are getting as you do get what you pay for! When you hire vendors you trust you will be able to relax and enjoy your day!
