Rebecca Arthurs, known for her editorial style photography, is a true visionary. From lifestyle to details her photography is an art form. Her work speaks for itself, but we had her dish a little more for us so everyone can get to know the woman behind the camera.
1. Tell us a bit about yourself and your photography style.
I am a hopeless romantic, dreamer and tea drinker (I had my first cup of coffee this year!). I love hunting for antiques, deep conversations, hiking with my dog Rowan, and traveling for work and adventure. I’m a Fine Art Wedding Photographer. The majority of my current weddings are shot on film (think old school), developed in a darkroom, and then the negatives are beautifully scanned into digital files! I love weddings that are authentic & romantic, with lots of happiness and laughter. My couples also have a wild side. They are wild about each other, wild about pursuing their hopes and dreams, and wildly passionate about creating a beautiful life together.
2. What type of photography services do you offer?
Portrait and Lifestyle sessions are shot 100% on film. I shoot weddings hybrid, some digital some film.
3. What is the one thing you tell anyone you’re photographing?
I tell my clients not to worry about what to do! I’m here to help them relax and move naturally in front of the camera. One of the most common comments I hear is how pretty my “candid” photos are. And while that’s wonderful to hear, most people aren’t comfortable enough to really let loose and relax with a giant camera in their face. So the images that look so natural are often a product of my direction. I am an artist and visionary. I observe the mannerisms, emotions and relationships of the people I’m photographing, then intuitively direct them into authentic motions and poses that allow me to capture their true personalities.
4. How far do you travel to provide your services?
I’m based in Hawaii 6-7 months out of the year (living in Kailua Kona and shooting on all the Islands) I head back to New England during the Summer/Fall for those gorgeous North Eastern weddings. But I’m always happy to hop on plane to capture a celebration in a new location. Your imagination is the only limit!
