Giardini Di Sole

Who: Giardini Di Sole

What: Home and tabletop decor handcrafted in Italy

Where: Created in Italy, Sold in Boston

1. Tell us about the history of Giardini Di Sole.

Four friends met in Italy in 2000: two Italian, one Canadian, and one American. Our children attended the same small international school in the Castelli Romani on the outskirts of Rome. We met in the way so many women do, through our children, their school and our shared experiences. We worked together for the school and realized we made good partners—each with our own unique skills that complemented each other. Sandy returned to Vancouver in 2003, I moved to Zurich in 2004 and then to Boston in 2005. Jo & Liz are residents of Frascati, Italy. In 2006, Sandy opened the first Giardini di Sole showroom in Vancouver with the help of Jo. Sandy realized that there was an opportunity to introduce beautiful Italian ceramics to the Vancouver area and also an opportunity to stay connected to Italy and all that she loves there. Sandy & Jo spent much of 2004 and 2005 working together, traveling through Tuscany making contacts and establishing relationships.  After returning to Boston, I joined them and worked to develop the business in Boston. My love of beautiful objects and a shared love of all things Italian made for a natural addition to the venture. In 2010, GdS opened its second showroom in SOWA—the South End of Boston. Liz joined the team in 2010 and since then we have worked to introduce new creators of Italian home decor and tableware from throughout the country and honed our collection to reflect our love of exceptional design and creativity.

2. Is your showroom open to the public?

Yes.  We are open Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from noon to 6; Thursdays from noon to 7, and during the summer months on Sunday from 11 – 5.  We stay open for First Fridays until 8 pm.

3. Do you offer gift registry?

Yes, we offer a wedding and gift registry. GdS’s unique bridal registry offers the creative couple the opportunity to select, from our carefully curated collection, the tableware and accent pieces that reflects their love for bold, inspired design. Our registry includes gift options that couples actually want to receive and family and friends are excited to give.  Created in Italy…. brought to life in your home!

4. Which collections are most popular?

The most popular ceramic lines are Splash, Cassandra and Graffito, Carnevale.  The Speedy glass collection is also popular, as is the Vizio collection of wine glasses and flutes. Currently, due to the season, all of our Mario Luca Giusti acrylic line is very popular.

5. What do you see for the future? Will GdS expand further with home goods?

Yes, we are always on the lookout for exciting new artisans and designs to add to our collection.  We just found several new ceramic tableware lines on our recent trip to Italy and are working with one of our artisans to create a GdS exclusive pattern.

New England Fare

Compton Clambake hosts a non-traditional rehearsal dinner filled with New England fare overlooking Newport Harbor for Charlotte and John.

With many fond childhood memories of lobster dinners, Charlotte and John decided to host a clambake  in Newport for their rehearsal dinner. Compton Clambakes came equipped with stone, seaweed, a bonfire wood pit, and of course – shellfish! The bakemaster treated guests to a fun history lesson by the fire pit before everyone feasted on what Charlotte describes as “the best lobsters, steamers, and clams we’ve ever tasted.” Exquisite Events teamed up with Sayles Livingston Flowers to set the mood for the dinner with flowers and décor. Guests dined at white picnic tables covered with blue and white linens. Hurricane candles alternated with mini floral arrangements in white and yellow hues. As the sun was setting a canopy of market lights illuminated the picnic tables continuing the fun into the night. “It was a magical evening filled with laughter and wouldn’t have been possible without planner extraordinaire Stasia Anthony and the Exquisite Events team, or Compton Clambakes,” Charlotte reminisces.

Compton Clambakes

Who: Compton Clambakes

What: Catering

Where: All over New England!

Whether it be a rehearsal dinner, wedding reception, or just a good ole fashioned summer party, Compton Clambakes provides guests with a delicious experience truly unique to New England! “A clambake is such a New England cultural experience—a new experience for many guests of destination weddings and, for people who live or grew up here, a nostalgic experience,” explains Sara Oliveira.

1. Give us a breakdown of a typical clambake and what the client can expect.

A traditional Compton Clambake starts with a bonfire of local hardwoods and stones.  We use the heat of the fire to get the stones red hot and when the stones are just right, we separate them from the fire.  Then we put a generous layer of freshly harvested seaweed on top of the stones to create steam.  The steam cooks the food to give it that unforgettable authentic clambake flavor that cannot be created by any other method.

2. What are the other services you offers?

We take care of all of the details so that you don’t have to.  We provide full service catering to handle all of your party needs including tables, chairs, tents, and tent decorations!

3. What are the menu offerings?

Among the traditional clambake offerings, we offer a raw bars stocked with the freshest local oysters, little necks, shrimp, crab legs –  which is a great way to kick off the bake! We also offer clam chowder, stuffed quahogs, clams, mussels, littlenecks, onions, sweet potatoes, regular potatoes, native sweet corn on the cob, brown bread and stuffing, fish, chourico, other sausage, hot dogs, lobsters (the king of the bake!) and for dessert — pies and strawberry shortcake!

4. Are there any size requirements in terms of venue or party?

We can serve anywhere from 20-300 people. From an intimate backyard gathering to an oversized event tent!
