Name: Providence Public Library

Location: Providence, Rhode Island

Tell us a little bit about the history of the space as a wedding venue. When did it open and how has it evolved over the years? The Providence Public Library announced their exclusive agreement with Southern New England’s Premier Caterer, Russell Morin Catering and Events and underwent major restorations in 2012. The library opened their doors for events in January of 2013. Many of our 2013 couples booked the space based on artist renderings! We did roughly 25 weddings in 2013 and anticipate close to 60 in 2016. The space is becoming more and more popular every year.

Can you give us a brief overview of the venue? What are the options for a bride planning her wedding there? The Providence Public Library is an incredible venue. One unique feature is that we only host one wedding per day. This gives our couples the flexibility to customize their time frame to any 5 or 6 hours they would like. They can even adjust their time frame after booking. We offer a gorgeous bridal suite and breathtaking photo locations. New England has some pretty unpredictable weather so it’s nice to know you will have gorgeous photos regardless of Mother Nature!

What is your busy season? We are fortunate to have weddings year-round, but historically our busiest time is May through November. This year we have several January and March weddings and we are noticing the winter months are filling up in 2017 as well.

In addition to weddings, what other events is the space available for? The more detail you can provide, the better. We host a wide variety of events including weddings, conferences, concerts, galas, workshops and dinners. The library also has a 300-person auditorium which many people don’t know about!

Is there a favorite event that you’ve hosted? Any celebrity visitors to the venue? It’s hard to pick a favorite! We have done the Pell Awards for the past 3 years. We also did an incredible holiday party for Alex and Ani in 2014. We’ve had a few celebrities including John Krasinski and his wife Emily Blunt, Richard Jenkins and Debra Messing.

What makes the space so special–especially as a destination for getting married? For weddings, rentals include the Grand Hall, indoor Garden Courtyard, Ship Room and Bridal Suite. For larger guest counts, we also offer the Providence Journal Rhode Island Room as an additional rental space. These spaces are truly unique, and we invite our couples to customize the use of each of them to create their one-of-a-kind wedding day! Since no two weddings will be alike at the Library, we assure a truly unique experience for our couples and their guests.

Do you have any advice or recommendations for brides that may be considering the venue? I would recommend securing their date as soon as possible, especially if they have a specific date in mind. Once they book with the library they will be in great hands. Russell Morin Catering and Events will provide them with a complimentary Event Specialist who will help guide them through everything from vendor recommendations, floor plans, time lines and of course menu selections!

What is the mission or business motto that the Providence Public Library functions under? How did it get it’s name? While its mission is to provide free public library services, many people aren’t aware that the Providence Public Library is an independent, non-profit organization governed by a board of trustees and supported primarily through private funding sources. Russell Morin Catering and Events helps support this mission by giving back a percentage of the catering for each event. The venue rental and furniture rental are also given back to the library.

How far in advance should you put in a request to secure a date? We are heavily booking into 2017, especially for Saturdays. We have even had a few 2018 inquiries! If someone is looking for a Saturday in 2017, I would recommend reaching out now!
