Last week, we chatted with Artisan Bake Shop in Rochester, Massachusetts about their tips for shopping for your wedding cake. This week, they’re back—sharing the questions you should ask before following through with this “sweet” decision.
1. Always ask for photos. You want to see images of the actual cakes the bake shop has made in the past, not stock photos.
2. Request references. Find out the list of professionals that the cake shop likes to work with and also ask if they are recommended by any venues. These details will help you determine the quality of their work.
3. Spill your details. I find that I love to know all about the couple’s wedding day plans — I ask them to tell me about their style, their color inspiration, and whether or not they have any fun or quirky hobbies they’ll be incorporating. This sets the design process off and really allows me to understand them and their big day.
4. Go with the flow. The cake portion of planning is more of a design process than most couples realize. Seasoned cake designers have a set standard for how the appointment process works. By the end, your questions should all be answered and you should feel comfortable about the person’s knowledge.
