Tell us a little bit about your company. Scott Connery Events is a full service event planning company. I specialize in weddings as this is my true love and passion. I started my business after 25 years in the “Corporate World” as a wedding/event planner. I worked for many years in hotels and wedding venues, as well as large scale convention centers. Owning my own business has always been a dream of mine. I wanted to have an event planning company that truly was different and unique, a business that could showcase my talents and visions. In the Corporate World, it can be a challenge to truly showcase who you are. As a business owner, it is the most liberating feeling to be able to work with clients and be able to deliver their dreams based on their wishes, and my talents.
Can you give us an overview of the range of services you offer? For wedding planning, I offer the following three services: Full Service Coordination, Partial Wedding Planning and Basic Wedding Day Coordination. Each one of these services is custom designed to fit the needs and budget for any bride. For all other events, I offer a range of services that can be as simple as helping to plan the décor, to planning and executing the entire affair for the client. I also specialize in home dinner parties, which are great for the client that loves to entertain, but in today’s busy and fast life does not have the time to plan and prepare.
How do you work with the bride to make sure her nuptials go off without a hitch? From the minute that I meet a bride and groom and they contract me for their wedding, I am basically their personal assistant as it relates to their wedding. I provide the couple with unlimited access to me at all times. For many couples, planning a wedding comes with huge anxiety. If they know they are able to contact me with any questions that have, small or large, at any time, this eases their anxiety greatly. I provide the couple with a monthly timeline that keeps them on track for all the planning, as well as meet with the couple on a monthly basis. Face to face contact is extremely important. This is the biggest day of their lives. My goal is to make each and every couple feel as if they are my only client. I want them to enjoy the planning process, because it truly can be a very fun experience. As I tell my clients, sit back and relax and leave all that anxiety for me to manage.
What is your busy season? As an event planner, you are always busy either planning the events or executing them. For the most part, the busy wedding season runs from April to October, however, here in New England, winter weddings are very popular as well.
In addition to weddings, what other events do you work on? The events that I specialize in are as follows: Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, birthday celebrations, bridal showers, rehearsal dinners, holiday parties, holiday home decor, baby showers, home dinner parties. I also plan Corporate Affairs of any sort.
Is there a favorite event that you’ve hosted? In my career, I have so many events that are favorites of mine. Weddings are my favorites. I love planning every detail, and then having the wedding day be the couples “Superbowl”. There is no better feeling than seeing the glow on a couple’s face and the tears in their eyes on their wedding day. The best feeling is knowing that I contributed to their happiness. I love to make people happy, and what better way than on their wedding day?
Do you have any advice or recommendations for how a bride should work hand in hand with an event planner? I think the biggest recommendation that I can offer a bride and groom is that hiring a wedding planner is the best investment they will make in all of their wedding planning. I believe many couples have a fear that they cannot afford a wedding planner due to the fact that all the wedding costs can be very expensive. However, by hiring a myself as your wedding planner, the first meeting I offer on a complimentary basis. At this meeting, it gives both myself and the couple the opportunity to review their budget, and for me then to customize a planning package that will fit within their budget. I believe that flexibility with each and every couple is key to the success of their wedding.
What are the pros of hiring someone to coordinate the details of your big day? The wedding day is the most important day of their lives. Hiring a wedding planner allows the couple to enjoy the planning, leave the anxiety to someone else, and enjoy their day with the love of their lives. Life moves so quickly, and the wedding day moves faster that that. Every couple deserves to enjoy each and every minute of their big day.
What is the mission or business motto that you function under? I plan each and every event this way: I have an obsession to detail, and a passion to make people happy and see a gleaming smile on their faces. I stand by the customer service that I provide. This is a service-based profession, and I offer nothing less than perfection when it comes to customer service. I follow each couples dreams and wishes and make sure that their wedding day will be one that they will remember for the rest of their lives.
