Who better to talk to about bridal trends than the fabulous, bridal style guru, Beth Chapman of The White Dress by the Shore? Whether she’s at market or helping brides-to-be find the right look for their special day, the woman knows her stuff. Here are her favorite trends for this season:

Illusion backs/ plunging necklines: “Skin is in!” says Beth. “I’m seeing a lot of plunging necklines, and while not everyone is comfortable having their back completely showing, the illusion back allows more people to embrace the trend. The real newness comes in that the illusion back itself is skin color, and it gives the bride’s skin a more airbrushed and flawless appearance.”

Floral appliqués and feminine textures: “While lace has been popular for so many seasons, brides are moving away from all over lace and opting for these textural details instead,” says Beth. “It’s an evolution that is going more towards a textural feel with three dimensional elements to it. It’s a beautiful, feminine trend. Some people don’t want appliqués all over their dress and they tend to go for something that is more concentrated in a specific area, like the bottom of the dress or just the top. It’s a nice touch.”

Bridal separates and crop tops: “There is a very specific bride and type of wedding that works with this style,” says Beth. “It’s a hard look to pull off, you need an amazing figure and toned midriff to make it work. If you don’t feel comfortable wearing it for the actual wedding, I love it for a rehearsal dinner instead!”

Watercolor-inspired floral prints: “This is such a romantic and pretty way to incorporate color into your wedding in a softer way,” says Beth. “If you don’t want to embrace the trend with your dress, consider it for your bridesmaids’ dresses. It’s definitely a larger print, washed out floral.”

Rentals Unlimited at the Volvo Ocean Race

20150514_180936

While most of the events for the Volvo Ocean Race are by invitation only, we’d thought we’d get an inside look at some of the glamorous parties and dinners that many of our favorite vendors contributed to! Sheli Beck Silveria and Jennifer Gullins of Rentals Unlimited answer a few of our questions.

How did Rentals Unlimited become involved with the race? Why is it an important event for Rentals Unlimited? We have long standing relationship with Sail Newport and have donated to their cause for many years. They played a big part in getting us involved. The event is not just an important event for Rentals Unlimited but an important event for the state of RI. The positive impact the Volvo Ocean Race has on the tourism, hospitality and special event industry in Rhode Island and Newport is like no other. We are also happy to partner with Newport Hospitality, DMC who has been an integral part of creating all the special events held throughout the state.

Any collaborations you particularly enjoyed? We enjoyed collaborating on the VIP tents in the Race Village with Sail Newport and the awards dinners at Belle Mer, Castle Hill, Rosecliff and Marble House.

When you  provide rentals what is your job/ what are you providing for your customers? Our job ranges depending upon the need of the event. Some events we are providing full equipment of tables, chairs, china, linen etc. for 800 guests with installations.   Other events we are providing chic lounge furniture and branded bars. It is a very wide range.

What was the most surprising part of the event for you as a vendor? For us, we were surprised that many events were still popping up with as little as a five days notice!
