Yellow and White Taj Wedding from Casey Durgin Photography

We love the soft and airy details that came to us in the Taj Boston wedding from Casey Durgin Photography.  The bright yellow and crisp whites paired with the already modern black and white Taj gave a sense of sophistication to the event.

From Casey Durgin: "Nicole & Nicolas are one of those couples who put a smile on your face and remind you how beautiful love is. Not only are they incredibly photogenic, they are kind, sweet and so much fun! I have never laughed so hard during a toast or had so many great dancing shots of the bride & groom breaking it down on the dance floor! I don’t think Nicole could take a bad picture if she tried! Nicole did such an amazing job planning this beautiful event. I loved the gray & yellow details that were seen in the invitations, florals, tables, seating cards, ribbons, bridesmaid dresses and the groomsmen’s ties. I also loved having the opportunity to photograph this amazing couple in the Boston Common Gardens."

Mount Hope Farm Wedding from Peter Silvia and Exquisite Events

Casey DeLeone of Exquisite Events was kind enough to share an intimate look at her wedding day this past year at Mount Hope Farm.  Being an industry insider we were sure Casey had some tips to pass along that she may never have even thought about before, now that she has stood in her clients' shoes.  Please enjoy the stunning rustic wedding planned at glorious Mt. Hope Farm captured so beautifully by Peter Silvia Photography.  Here are some insider tips as well as some creative ideas from Casey:

Insider Knowledge that came in handy:

Knowing what vendors I wanted to work with definitely made things easy…just a quick phone call instead of having to research and shop around.  Having experience doing tented events definitely helped and being able to do a lot of things myself…like floorplans on PartyCAD etc. made things easier.

What Tips that I wouldn’t have thought of before:

Now I always suggest for brides to take their photos with the wedding party before the ceremony.  Dave and I did that and it saved a lot of time.  Our wedding party was able to attend our cocktail hour and having the first moment we see each other more private was wonderful…I think it’s the best thing you can do.  It took the edge off and made me more relaxed to be able to spend time with him before the ceremony and peak through the curtains as we watched the guests arrive.

Another tip would be to read your contracts carefully…I know this should be a given but I didn’t notice until 2 weeks before the wedding that amplified music had to end at Mount Hope Farm at 10:30.  I had purchased an additional hour so we had planned on dancing until 11pm.  If I hadn’t seen this at the last second we would have had a rude awakening the night of.  Instead we changed things around and came up with the acoustic sing-a-long around the firepits.

Description of the Day:

Dave and I are both half Italian so we decided to celebrate our heritage and throw a Tuscan feast for our family and close friends but being in the event design industry…I couldn’t stop there! I chose Mt Hope Farm to host our big day after working there many times and knowing what a gorgeous property it is.  Our ceremony was on the lawn in front of the large pine trees overlooking the ocean. My brother walked me down the aisle and it was perfect! We were married under a beautiful white fabric arbor complete with a crystal chandelier and decked out by the amazing Sayles Livingston.  We hadn’t talked about her doing anything to the arbor and I remember walking down the aisle and seeing the flowers for the first time…they took my breath away…and so did my future husband!  My mom and I handmade the ceremony programs. Dave loves the ProJo crossword so we made a Casey and Dave themed crossword puzzle and gave guests little golf pencils so they could do the puzzle as they waited for the ceremony to start. Following the ceremony, guests made their way to the cabin as Dave and I went down to the beach to take our photos. We left the cabin pretty understated…we had a thumbprint guest canvas, the placecards sat in rustic wooden boxes filled with baby’s breath, in lieu of favors we made a donation to the Leukemia and Lymphoma foundation in memory of my father who passed away from Leukemia in 2000.  Dave is in a band so two of his band mates did an acoustic set on the deck of the cabin.

Guests were invited down into the tent for dinner…this was my big moment.  Tent décor is a passion and I loved designing my space…to see all of my guests faces as they walked in was priceless! Everything about that space was perfect and so cozy.  We got an oversized hybrid tent with a full floor from Newport Tent Company and put a 20ft tall fabric divider in the center creating two spaces.  The first space was the Tuscan dinner.  Dean Martin played in the background as guests feasted on the edible centerpiece first course (each guest got their own tongs at their place setting) and the two following plated courses. The divider wall had sections of wallpaper walls covered in vintage frames filled with photos of my husband and I growing up adding to the homey feel. The brown derby boys came out dressed as Morins staff and burst into song and put on a fabulous show as we all ate and sang along. Dave and I gave a quick toast (along with toasts from the best men and maid of honor) and once dinner was done, we invited guests to make their way into the dancing area.  Morins staff pulled back the curtains to reveal a modern, sleek atmosphere. Everything was white and uplit in textured purple lighting. Guests were given a new placecard and a new table in the dancing space but most people stayed on the dance floor! Morins staff lined up on either side of the entrance with champagne…people loved it! The dancing space was a completely different vibe.  Dave’s band played a one hour set and then we switched to a DJ.  We had hand selected every single song that played that night so we never left the dance floor.  I didn’t even get to see the cordial cart or canola cart that Morins staff was rolling around for guests to peruse…everyone was raving about those carts!

At 10:00pm we had our last dance and invited guests to the next part of the evening…an acoustic sing-a-long around firepits.  Guests made their way outside and grabbed a seat on wicker chairs topped with blankets to keep off the fall chill.  Dave and his friends played songs and everyone sang-along.  This was probably my favorite part of the night.  We made smores and Morins staff passed hot chocolates.

It was such an amazing night!! We had a blast!!!

Reader Inspiration: Pink + Orange + Aqua Harvest Birthday

It was a rough week up here in New England.  We wanted to give respect and not be posting about prettiness and fun when there was a manhunt happening in our city.  So now, we feel like we can breathe a little easier, and we hope that continuing to provide inspiration lets us all know that there is so much to celebrate.

That said, we asked on our facebook page last week for some reader suggestions on inspiration boards.  Our reader Carli is having a birthday bash in October for her two-year-old at a pumpkin patch and wanted some fun ideas that weren't completely Halloween using Orange, Pink, and Aqua.  We think this can be totally fun and accomplished by using not only a play on the pumpkins for orange, but also totally un-expected elements like bright mixes of patterns and some fun and cherry flowers.  Here is what we came up with:

Clockwise from top left:  A bright chevron bag hold a cute letterpressed invitation in the party's signature colors with a few pieces of sweetness thrown in for good measure | A bold orange linen from Table Toppers would be great for lining the table or if you are doing a dessert or food station. | Doing a low-to-the-ground table and lots of pillows (OR HOW ABOUT HAY BALES?) to sit on keeps the little ones able to sit on their own without the worry of knocking over chairs. Mixing patterns like bright stripes, florals, and adding a few oranges (maybe sub for mini-pumpkins or gords?)  and brighter pink flowers takes the look to an eclectic mix of fun and style. | An all aqua cake against a background of bright pink balloons makes for one pretty photo-op. | Use the pumpkins for things like drink coolers! The bright orange will blend right in! | A mocktail punch like this one will keep the little ones hydrated while they pick their own pumpkins. | If you are having a tent or overhang, typing up some orange lanterns like these with bright pink ribbon will add a little elegance to any size canopy. | Keep your eye out for aqua vases and mixing up the sizes with some carnations (instead of the peonies that won't be in season) will give you the same frilly look. | Bring it all together in your invitation or menu.  These patterned pumpkin mix invites are perfect for the party we imagined.
