The September Issue: Part II

The next designer whose fall collection caught our eye this year is Tory Burch.  The warm caramel tones paired with slick textured blacks like patent leather and velvet made us ache for an event that could capture that feeling this season.  Tory's signature leathers and gold foxes also make an appearance in the look book for the fall.  Take a peek at what an autumn Tory Burch inspired wedding would look like to us!

Clockwise from top left: This Vera Wang caramel/toffee colored dress is the perfect hue for the season and to coordinate with Tory's collection.  A monogram necklace like this one from Folia pays homage to Tory's iconic monogram, A kraft paper invitation with white lettering from Papermoss looks perfectly placed.  A classic white centerpiece of orchids set aglow by tons of candlelight from Lilacs is a centerpiece to swoon over.  Dresses from the Tory Burch collection in camel and black are perfect for fall bridesmaids.  A fox cake topper plays perfectly off of the foxes present in the collection this year.  Table settings from Rentals Unlimited like leather chargers, matte black plates, and gold flatware are completely reminiscent of the collection.

Remembering Gene

Today we remember Gene DeCosta, the Owner of Root Catered Events and a friend of Bliss Publications who passed away last week after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Gene combined his degree in design with many years of experience working for Boston's finest restaurants and catering companies and his passion for great food and unique design evolved into Root Catered Events. He approached each event with excitement and enthusiasm as if it were his own and supported local farmers whenever possible. Gene believed in giving back and made a donation to The Arbor Foundation after each event to help support the environment.

We had the pleasure of working with Gene this past June on our first photo shoot of the 2013 edition and were shocked and deeply saddened to learn of his passing since we had no idea that he was ill at the time of the shoot- a testament for sure to his positive outlook and determination to live his life fully in the face of such a tremendous struggle.

We were just getting to know Gene and found him to be extremely genuine, kind, talented and energetic. Gene's best friend Mary Flynn joined us that day (she took this lovely photo of him in the field at the Cape Cod Lavender Farm)  and shared with us his excitement about being a part of Bliss Celebrations. "That shoot was kind of a comeback for him — just 6 weeks after he had major surgery. It was a happy day for us because we really thought he was going to make it, but sadly his cancer returned in July. He went into the hospital with pneumonia last week and  just didn't have the strength to fight any longer. He had such a presence and he will be greatly missed."

All of us at Bliss Publications will remember Gene fondly and are thankful to be able to share the beauty of what he created for us that day on the pages of the next issue of Celebrations.

We extend our deepest sympathies to all of Gene's family and friends.

peterson Party Center’s Table Design Series III

Welcome back for the third installment of Peterson Party Center's Vendor Table Design Series, where vendors have the opportunity to go into Peterson's fabulous (and we got a tour last week and I mean FAB-U-LOUS!) new showroom and build a tablescape that represents their brand!

We love the creativity behind this installment of the Vendor Table Design Series as Aimee of Paper, Gowns & Glory designed all the decor with hand cut paper!  You have to see her website to see the amazing things she can create.  The elements from Peterson's that she pulled are the perfect match for her kraft paper and burlap stylings that she chose to represent her!

Take a peek here and see more on Peterson's Facebook Page!

If you are planning an event of any type, it's great just to go in and walk around the showroom and play with different place settings, linens and the like, to create the look you want.  Plus, planners and other vendors have the opportunity to sit in a private conference room and gab about design and style with tons of elements right at their fingertips for visual presentations with their clients!
