The Role of Paper

When a stationery designer plans her wedding, you can bet paper plays a huge role in the event.  Nichole Michel of Coral Pheasant Stationery + Design had one of the most special, unique, and eclectic weddings we have seen (held at the amazing Old Buttonwoods which includes a vintage bowling alley!!!), and we are truly over the moon for every inch of the luscious paper design she created!  Take a peek at some of the amazing images from Nichole and Tim's wedding as well as some close-ups of the super creative invitations, thank you's, signage, and details she created ("snug as a bug in a rug" tags for the blankets?! Swoon!).  Also see them on page 30 in Issue 2!  And check out even more images on Carla Ten Eyck's blog HERE.  And if you still can't get enough check out the VIDEO by Jim Altieri's Vintage Cinema!

We are in the heart of summer right now in New England, a few Del's lemonades, trips to the beach, and backyard barbecues down and of course a few more on the horizon before we break out the leather boots and apple cider.  This made me think about a party that really embraces the season, and what says summer more than picnics?  Picnic parties can be anywhere from mis-matched blankets of the ground (we love THIS video that shows you how to make adorable picnic blankets by Design Love Fest), to maybe a moroccan style table surrounded by pillows, to a full on upscale picnic in all its gingham glory!  Here are a few ideas to get you thinking about summer picnic parties…

The complete set up:  This upscale picnic look works great for a summer dinner party with friends, a clambake, a rehearsal dinner, birthday, engagement party, pretty much anything!  The black large gingham pattern really sets the tone for something a little different.  Mix in terra cotta potted herbs for favors and adding rustic green glasses and bamboo flatware for a complete look.  We love the touch of kraft paper used for the menu card and a simple linen napkin. This look is definitely do-able for parties big and small.

This mismatched chair look we couldn't help but share.  Maybe not completely realistic for huge events, but just for a large bridal party head table combined with the wooden folding garden chairs (like THESE from Rentals Unlimited) makes a great eclectic look, perfect for serving up a casual picnic style menu.

Bright and colorful pillows on the floor with a lower style table are a sort of hybrid between the blanket only picnic and the completely set table with china and chairs.  Love this idea for a kids party, a girls night, or even just a romantic date night.  We love this recent picnic style set up that Camille Styles featured as well!

Ideas for all the little extras!

-These "let's picnic" downloads from eat drink chic are so cute, we can't get enough!  Love the little toss of confetti in there, too!

-Mini pies hand tied with wooden flatware and bakers twine are the perfect picnic dessert.  Have guests grab one and then bring out the left over sparklers from the 4th and watch the sunset.

-Potted daisies and red gingham napkins along with pretty bottled water set the tone for a more rustic style picnic party.

Tell us, what is your favorite type of summer soiree?

White Wedding at the Boston Public Library

A winter wedding all dressed in white by Michele Mottola Special Events Consulting at the Boston Public Library couldn't make for a better match.  Michele even used Flokati on many of the chairs in Bates Hall to warm up the atmosphere and bring in a modern element, along with glass candle sticks and minimalistic orchids.  We love this mix of traditional and modern and hope you enjoy!
