Newport Nostaliga: Revisited

This light.  This amazing, golden light against this dreamy sky.  You have to watch Artistic Wedding Films' video below, just to see this extraordinary light, but also to see this lovely event we featured on page 195 at the Newport Country Club in motion, and we mean lots of motion.  Their team did a time lapse video of the entire evening and placed it strategically within the highlights you see here, it's just fantastic to watch.  Old Hollywood Glam in a East Coast city that knows glam just as well.  Enjoy along with a few more images from our feature with photography by W Scott Chester, and a few more stationery images from the talented Judith Carroll of Papers (photos of stationery by Bliss Celebrations Guide).

Reader Inspiration: Aqua and White with a hint of Pink

Another one of our lovely readers, Ms Liz Lima White, has requested via our Facebook Page that we create some inspiration for a beachfront wedding in shades of aqua and white with a hint of blush.  To tame this palette the key is to really stick with those seaglass shades and to keep with the softness of the sea.  For the pale pink hints, we think this would be best brought in through hints of flowers and maybe in cocktails and dessert.  The cleanness and sleekness of this palette comes in through careful edits, it's easy to go overboard with a beach theme, so try and used unexpected elements like glass buoys or sailing rope as eclectic nods to the sea instead of putting starfish and sand dollar emblems all around.  Here are some images to inspire and what we thought about them:

The seaglass inspired palette, and also these buoys are the perfect decor! Group them in large vases, place them on cocktail tables, hang them from your chuppah!

Protea is the perfect flower to bring in that hint of pink.  The unique look and large size makes it grand for adding a spark to your table decor or your bridal bouquet.  It's soft blush color plays perfectly with aqua.  Also, this amazing garland runner of oyster shells would be a stunning centerpiece to a long Tuscan style table, especially when mixed with driftwood and soft florals and candlelight.

Some ideas for the maids: Soft turquoise dresses in flowy chiffon blow in the seabreeze.  These oversized cocktail rings would be the perfect gift to match!

Whitewashed farm tables like these from New England Country Rentals are a great idea for building your beachy wedding.  No need to rent full linen, maybe just add a runner or go with something totally different like the oyster shell garland above!  A linen napkin like these from Rentals Unlimited might be a great match.

Petty pink poppies look perfect in small glass bottles for an earlier spring event, and this aqua-hued sailing rope would be perfect for winding inside tall glass vases.

All the shades of the sea in these invitations give your guests a hint at the decor, and their casual playfulness gives them insight that the affair may be beachy-chic instead of black tie.  Blue mason jars topped with pale pink flowers are another fun idea for decor!

Do you dare to wear an aqua dress? This stunning seaside shoot on the shores of Hawaii by Simply Bloom Photography incorporated a dazzling dress in the softest shade.  Want to dress up a ballroom?  Adding drum shades in the perfect match to your linens is a great idea and Ryan Designs could help you create something similar.  We love how the dark mahogany chairs add just a touch of balance to the all blue and white room in this image.  Lastly, air plants, driftwood, and messages-in-a-bottle give a shipwrecked feel to an event with more of a rustic look.

For place settings, Be Our Guest carries these glacier glass rectangle plates.  When place atop a white base (like the whitewashed tables above or a white charger or linen), their seaglass color really pops.  Also, a fun little lighthearted touch like these sea urchin glass vases, bring a hint of whimsy to a wedding.

Also see two great inspiration boards that really captured the palette on Snippet and Ink HERE and HERE

We hope you enjoyed our take on your color palette, Liz!  Are you stumped with decor for an event? Post on our wall and we will create something for you, too!

New Tent in Newport

It is finally here!  The new tent at Castle Hill Inn & Resort has arrived, and we couldn't have been more thrilled to spend the most perfect evening getting to see it (and taste some fresh summer delicacies!) in person.  The custom designed tent from Sperry Fabric Architecture, the makers of Sperry Tents, is the absolute epitome of Newport chic.  As I photographed the event, I couldn't help but love how much light the tent let in, from the skylights above to the wide open sides, a warm glow bounced around the beautiful setup.  The beautiful new slate grey tables from Rentals Unlimited were dressed up for the event by Stoneblossom Floral and Event Design with eclectic elegant pieces like driftwood risers, vintage mirrors, mason and perfume jars donned with coral peonies, herbs, and grasses, and vases filled with rope.  Pretty lounge vignettes set up with plush furniture from Rentals Unlimited were great for catching up with some of our favorite industry friends, and we also enjoyed the small plates served from 3 high top bars set up around the tent, not to mention the Raw Bar and Hors D'oeuvre station complete with a tree installation designed by Exquisite Events outside and the Individual Clam Bakes served inside (we also got a glimpse at the new lobster bake area, WOW! Stunning).  The new floor is perfect for dancing (I tested it out, as it was my birthday eve of course), and if possible, when the sun set the tent was even more remarkable with uplighting setting it aglow.  Thanks to all our friends at Castle Hill and Newport Restaurant Group for inviting us to be a part of the splendid summer celebration.  We can't wait to see the submissions start to roll in across our desks with weddings and events under the new tent! Enjoy some of the images we captured!  Oh, and New York readers, you might be ecstatic to learn that Sperry Tents has now expanded to the Finger Lakes region! Check out their new offerings HERE
