Tallulah on Thames : Farm to table fresh ~ the future of culinary sustainability.

It’s not necessarily where a chef hails from that defines their food persona, rather where they have been that influences their culinary vision. “Committed to sourcing seasonal market-driven ingredients highlighting local farms and artisans to create a genuine and delightful dining experience” Tallulah on Thames partners, Chef Jake Rojas and Kelly Ann Maurice (along with her brother Keith) may have met in California, but have created a farm to table experience here in Newport that, in a short period of time, has garnered critical acclaim and landed chef Rojas on the short list for Food & Wine's The People's Best New Chef 2011 for his modern American cuisine.

Although national recognition certainly helps to put a restaurant on the map it is local love that keeps it there and it looks like Tallulah on Thames will have to get used to the “best of “ recognition being bestowed upon them from a regional level as well (Yankee Magazine “Best of New England” editors choice 2011 for Best Chowder, “RI Best Gourmet Burger” Go Local Prov, Best Organic Restaurant in Greater Providence…) and being relative newcomers to the RI restaurant scene has this ambitious team hard at work developing new ways to bring their food to their fans while gaining new devotees along the way.

You can enjoy Chef Rojas’ fresh and innovative cuisine at their small, but charming restaurant at 464 Thames Street in Newport where they also offer private dining experiences perfect for any special occasion, downstairs in the “Tallulah” dining room or upstairs in their open lounge space overlooking Thames Street. Chef Rojas can also be found at local farmers markets serving fresh tacos from his food truck Tallulah’s Tacos (when do these people sleep?) and also in the works is a “to go” menu featuring sandwiches, boxed lunches and “Thanksgiving To Go” in November of this year!

Natural Beauty ~ the hair and makeup of Christina Squier & Jane Sincere

For a flawless finish that is you only better Christina Squier and Jane Sincere are natural choices. Two of the most sought after hair stylists and makeup artists in Southern New England, the reviews speak volumes on this dynamic beauty duo and each one praises their talent, professionalism, personalities and mostly their ability to listen, evaluate and exceed their clients’ expectations.

From their shared space at Christina Squier Salon in Rumford Center in Rhode Island, they create beautiful hair and makeup that is modern, fresh and radiantly pretty without being "overdone". “Our philosophy is that it is a collaboration, ” explains Sincere. “Christina and I have worked together for the past four years and the success of our partnership is that our styles compliment each other. It’s not just about hair or makeup alone it is all about that moment when the bride steps into her dress and everything comes together”.

Bliss Celebrations was fortunate enough to visit the Christina Squier Salon not too long ago to see these two pros at work and to get some insider information on what’s hot for the upcoming fall season. Squier noted that “super chic, classic buns and French twists are back along with side pony tails that incorporate subtle braids and twists” and of course, Christina’s signature romantic, windswept, beachy waves are always in style.

Sincere suggests “ultra soft smokey eyes with just a hint of color on the lips to balance out the eyes “ her favorite ~ Bobby Brown’s “Tangerine” lip-gloss. And her best kept secret revealed…Ardell lashes (no. 53 to be exact)! Sincere says “don’t be afraid of false eyelashes, these are comfortable to wear and add an elusive touch of glamour to any look at a great price”.

Feeling like you’re all thumbs when it comes to eyelashes and up-dos? Or maybe you’re just looking for a day of stress free pampering? We suggest contacting the pros and treating yourself to a hair and makeup experience that is sure to capture your natural beauty and have you looking and feeling your best! Both Squier and Sincere suggest a hair and makeup "trial" before your wedding or special event to guarantee that you'll be picture perfect on your big day!

A Backyard Birthday

A gorgeous summer birthday soiree was held on the grounds of the family's estate in Jamestown.  Beautiful sculptures were found around the property and added a great contrast to the breezy and airy decor.  The atmosphere was kept chic and light with high and low cocktail tables on the lawn with garden chairs and a stations style dinner set inside the Newport Tent.  Stoneblossom Floral and Event Design created simple yet stunning centerpieces for the event, in fab summer style.  Rentals Unlimited provided the chairs, tables and linens.  Fun hors d'oeuvres including fish and chips in traditional newspaper were served by Blackstone Caterers.  A feminine color palette of sea foam green, amethyst, lime, and white brought the tent together, with rentals provided by Rentals Unlimited.  Every birthday should be celebrated, and having such a great backdrop to share with your friends and family is the perfect place for a beautiful party.

The extraordinary view from the tip of Jamestown left guests speechless!

The sea foam green color was the perfect soft touch to the elegant afternoon.

The personal artwork of the family was outstanding on the grounds.

Guests were greeted with a glass of blush bubby to toast with.

Delicious and beautiful hors d'oeuvres by the always creative Blackstone Caterers.
